 *****  June 14, 2013  *****

The storms Wednesday night wrecked havoc on the electrical infrastructure of our New Albany Building.  Most of the Building is still without power.  We are working hard to restore power as soon as possible.  In the meantime, we are offering to see all New Albany patients at our Dublin location.  Today's patients can be seen at the same time by the same provider at the Dublin location.  If you would prefer to reschedule, of course, we would be happy to do so.  Call Dublin at 614.791.2000

Thank you for your understanding.

Rainbow Families,

We would like to take a few moments to make several important announcements affecting us all at Rainbow Pediatrics.

It is with great sorrow that we announce Dr. Jeff Krasniewski's resignation from Rainbow Pediatrics. Dr. Jeff has provided excellent care to Rainbow's patients for many years. We are forever thankful for the many years we worked along side him. He was a good colleague and friend who will be missed dearly. We wish him the very best in his future endeavors. At the current time he is not practicing.

On a positive note we are very proud to welcome Dr. Jennifer Cooper to the Rainbow Pediatrics family. Dr. Jennifer will be joining us this summer after finishing her pediatric residency at Wake Forest University. She will likely practice out of both the New Albany and Dublin locations. More information about Dr. Jennifer should be on our website very soon.

Drs. Ann and Tyler and practitioner Ryan will be spending more time at the Dublin office to accommodate patients who previously saw Dr. Jeff.

Lastly, we are still very excited for our upcoming transition to Athena Clinicals Electronic Health Record and Communicator patient portal. Please make sure our office has your current email address. We will be emailing information on accessing the patient portal in late May 2013.

Yours Truly,

Drs. Ann and Tyler

Billing FYI:

With many of our patient families asking the same question: "Why am I receiving an additional office visit when my child was in for a well vist?", our billing team would like to share their response:

Most pediatric visits are either referred to as preventative health care or sick visits. These visits are both very important to the medical care of your child and can sometimes happen simultaneously. Historically, insurance companies would not reimburse for simultaneous visits thus requiring the patient to incur a second visit to address the significant illness or parental concern. This method was very difficult for many of our patients! We were relieved when insurance companies began reimbursing for simultaneous preventative health care , as well as sick visits. Some parents found it difficult to reconcile their explanation of benefits (EOB's) as they were unaware of the possible dual charges during one visit. With that in mind, we would like to offer the following explanation:

The preventative well check visit allows the provider to assess your child's physical and emotional health as well as growth, development, nutrition and risk assessment. We encourage parents or guardians to ask questions and discuss concerns, such as nutrition, sleep hygiene, behavioral issues and age appropriate developmental milestones, etc. Occasionally, the provider may order laboratory or screening tests to further assess your child.

If your child has a significant issue or illness at the time of the preventative health care visit, please be aware that it will require extra time and effort to establish a diagnosis and treatment. If that is the case, an extra charge will be incurred and a co-pay may be required. Please contact your insurance company with questions related to coverage of dual visits.  If you anticipate addressing a significant concern during the preventative healthcare visit please contact our office to ensure proper time is scheduled either during the visit or by scheduling an additional visit.

If you have additional questions about the double visit charge, please contact our billing department.

Attention All Expectant Parents or Parents of Infants Under 6 Months:

Important Information About Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

Due to recent reports of Whooping Cough causing an increased number of infant illness and deaths, we are working diligently to protect all family members through two vaccines offered in our office; DTaP and Tdap. Whooping Cough is most dangerous (occasionally fatal) for newborn babies (under 2 months of age) and infants under 6 months of age. If you are around a newborn baby or infant under 6 months of age it is essential that you've had a Tdap vaccine at least once as an adult.

Our office offers the Tdap vaccine for parents of newborns; please ask the MA or provider for more information. Our office recommends that grandparents, caregivers, nannies, babysitters and siblings of all newborns receive the vaccination as well. The Health Department offers the vaccine for adults or children who are unable to receive it from their provider ask your provider for more information.
